Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full 90-day stay. Zimbabwe does not require 6 months of remaining validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Zimbabwe
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing available funds. Officers may ask to see proof you can support yourself during the 90-day stay.Recommended
Visa-free entry is for tourism and business only
You cannot work or study in Zimbabwe under this visa-free arrangement. If you plan to work, volunteer, or study, you must apply for the appropriate visa or permit before you travel.
Overstaying your 90-day limit
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine (around USD 200) and a negative immigration record. If you need more time, apply for an extension before your permit expires.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you travel, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date) and ensure you have at least 1 blank page. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone.
2
Arrive at Zimbabwe immigration
At Harare, Victoria Falls, or Bulawayo airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly. They may also ask to see your return ticket.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a visitor entry permit valid for up to 90 days. No fee is charged. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to enter Zimbabwe.

Frequently asked questions

No. Malaysians can enter Zimbabwe visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, business, or short visits. No application or fee is needed.
Up to 90 days per visit. The exact number of days is stamped on your passport on arrival. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for an extension at the Zimbabwe Department of Immigration in Harare before your 90 days expire.
Extensions are possible but not automatic. You need to visit the Department of Immigration in Harare (or a regional office) before your current permit expires. Fees apply and processing takes a few days. Overstaying can result in fines or deportation.
You will likely be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before you travel.
Only if you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk (e.g., parts of Africa or South America). Otherwise, no. Check with your doctor or a travel clinic before departure.
Yes. The same visa-free rules apply at land border crossings like Victoria Falls (from Zambia) or Kazungula (from Botswana). Have your passport and return ticket ready. Queues can be longer at busy crossings.
US dollars are widely accepted and preferred. ATMs dispense Zimbabwean dollars (ZWL) but exchange rates can be poor. Bring enough USD cash for your stay — especially for taxis, markets, and smaller hotels.
