Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your stay in China. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in China. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but having proof avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Visa required — apply well in advance
Mozambican passport holders cannot enter China without a pre-approved visa. Start the process at least 3–4 weeks before your trip to allow for processing and any delays.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter China. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport, photo, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Make sure your passport has 6+ months validity and a blank page.
2
Complete the online application
Go to the CVASC website, fill out the visa application form, print it, and sign it. You'll need to select the visa type (usually L for tourism).
3
Submit in person or via agent
Take your documents to the nearest Chinese embassy or visa application centre. You can also use a visa agency to submit on your behalf. Processing takes 4–7 working days for standard service.
4
Pay the fee and collect your passport
Pay the visa fee at submission. When ready, collect your passport with the visa sticker inside. Check the visa dates match your travel plans.
5
Arrive in China and go through immigration
At the airport, join the 'Foreigners' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa, and be ready to show your return ticket and hotel booking if asked. You'll get an entry stamp — check it's correct.
