Mozambican passport holders need an eVisa to enter Somalia. The process is entirely online — no embassy visit required. As of 2026, this is the only way to get a visa for tourism or business.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
Apply for a Somalia eVisa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal. Processing takes up to 5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Mogadishu Airport checks it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Somalia. Somalia does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months beyond your departure date. Have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Checked at check-in
Airlines flying into Mogadishu require a confirmed onward or return ticket before boarding. Immigration officers also ask for it at the border. Book a refundable ticket if your plans are uncertain.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Immigration may ask for a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Somalia. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. Booking a refundable hotel is the safest option.Recommended
Security situation
Somalia has active conflict zones. Check your government's travel advisory before booking. Many travellers only visit Somaliland or Puntland, which are generally safer. Always have a local contact and travel insurance.
eVisa is the only option
There is no visa on arrival for Mozambican passport holders. Apply online before you fly. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so plan ahead.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Somali eVisa portal. Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved visa by email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: printed eVisa (or digital copy), passport with 6+ months validity, return ticket confirmation, hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate. Keep them in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at the airport in Somalia
At Mogadishu Aden Adde International Airport (or Hargeisa, Bosaso), go to the immigration counter. Present your passport and eVisa. The officer will check your documents, stamp your passport, and let you through. The whole process takes 5–10 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Exit immigration and collect luggage
After the stamp, head to baggage claim. Then proceed to customs — declare any large amounts of cash or restricted items. Once cleared, you're free to enter Somalia.
