Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the length of your stay in Zimbabwe. Airlines at Maputo (MPM) and other departure points may ask to see your passport before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Harare (HRE) and Victoria Falls (VFA) routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines also check this before departure.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or card for your stay
Have at least $300 USD or equivalent in cash, or a credit/debit card with available balance. Officers may ask how you plan to support yourself during your visit.Recommended
Visa-free but not automatic
Even though no visa is required, immigration officers still have the final say. Always carry your return ticket and accommodation details. If you look like you might overstay or work illegally, entry can be refused.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Zimbabwe. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration
At Harare, Bulawayo, or Victoria Falls airports, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Foreign Passports'. At land borders like Beitbridge or Chirundu, join the queue for foreign nationals.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport (with at least 6 months validity and 1 blank page) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter — confirm the dates are correct.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim (if flying), then customs. No visa fee is charged for Mozambican passport holders.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave Zimbabwe before the 90 days are up and re-enter, or apply for a proper visa at a Zimbabwe embassy before travel.
Zimbabwe requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Mozambique is not on that list, so you generally do not need it for direct travel. But if you have recently visited a yellow fever endemic country, carry your certificate.
Yes. The main land border crossings are at Machipanda (near Mutare) and Zumbo. The same visa-free rules apply — no visa needed, just a valid passport and onward ticket.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. There are no exceptions for Mozambican passport holders.
It is not a formal requirement for Mozambican passport holders, but immigration officers may ask how you will support yourself. Having a credit card or a few hundred US dollars in cash (Zimbabwe uses US dollars widely) is wise.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits. For work or study, you must apply for the appropriate visa or permit from a Zimbabwe embassy before traveling.
US dollars are widely accepted and preferred. ATMs dispense Zimbabwean dollars (ZWL), but US dollars are easier for most transactions. Bring small denominations (1s, 5s, 10s) for taxis, markets, and tips.
