Nigerian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Kazakhstan in 2026. You must apply online before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options for Nigerians. The eVisa is single-entry and typically valid for 30 days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Kazakhstan eVisa at the official eVisa portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Kazakhstan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Kazakh law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers may ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kazakhstan. Border officers occasionally ask for it.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient money
Have bank statements or cash showing you can cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but around $50–$100 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is single-entry only
Once you leave Kazakhstan, the eVisa is invalid. If you plan to visit neighbouring countries and return, you'll need a new eVisa.
Keep your eVisa printout with you
Immigration may ask to see it again if you're stopped. A digital copy on your phone is a good backup, but a paper copy is more reliable.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.e-gov.kz/en/, create an account, fill in your details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $80 USD) by card. Processing takes 3–5 working days. You'll receive the eVisa by email as a PDF.
2
Print your eVisa and pack your documents
Print the eVisa approval email. Also print or save on your phone: your return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate. Keep your passport handy.
3
Arrive at a Kazakh airport
You'll land at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (NQZ) in Astana or Almaty International Airport (ALA). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for foreigners. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready.
4
Go through immigration
Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date. Keep the eVisa printout with you for the duration of your stay.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.

No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave before it expires. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to exit and re-apply.
If you're staying airside and your layover is under 24 hours, you generally don't need a visa. But check with your airline — some require a transit visa. For any landside exit, you need the eVisa.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your documents are incomplete or your passport doesn't meet validity requirements. You'll get an email explaining the reason. You can re-apply with corrected documents — the fee is non-refundable.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at all international border crossings — airports, land borders, and seaports. Just have your eVisa printout and passport ready.
If you're staying more than 5 working days, your hotel or host must register you with the migration police. If you're in a private home, you need to register yourself at the local migration office within 5 days. Hotels usually handle this automatically.
The local currency is the Kazakhstani tenge (KZT). ATMs are widely available in cities. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants, but cash is king in markets and smaller towns. Exchange USD or EUR at banks or official exchange offices — avoid street changers.
