Must cover entire stay
Your Nigerian passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure date from Romania. The passport must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Romanian airports will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen area within your visa validity. Budget airlines check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a confirmed hotel booking for each night of your stay, or a notarized invitation letter from a Romanian host. Immigration may ask to see this at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient means for your stay
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing you have at least €50 per day of your stay. Romanian border officers occasionally ask for this, especially for longer visits.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Romania, not from when you apply. If your passport expires sooner, renew it first.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save scans of your passport, visa approval, return ticket, and accommodation on your phone and in cloud storage. If you lose the originals, digital copies can help at the embassy or police station.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to evisa.mae.ro/en, create an account, fill in the application form, upload your documents (passport scan, photo, travel itinerary), and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 5–15 business days.
2
Prepare your documents for travel
Print or save digital copies of your visa approval, passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. Keep them in a folder or on your phone for quick access.
3
Arrive at the airport in Romania
At passport control (usually at Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest or other international airports), present your passport and visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly and calmly.
4
Get your passport stamped
Once approved, the officer will stamp your passport with your entry date and allowed stay. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if the dates look wrong, ask immediately.
