What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport (or land border)
When you land at Kigali International Airport (KGL) or arrive at a land border crossing, go to the immigration desk. There's no separate visa queue for Nigerians — just join the standard 'Foreign Passports' line.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months, with a blank page). Have your return ticket and accommodation details ready in case they ask. The officer will check your details and may ask about your plans.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day entry permit. That's it — no payment, no forms. You're free to enter Rwanda.
4
Keep your passport safe during your stay
Carry your passport with you (or a copy) as you may need it for hotel check-ins or if stopped by police. Don't overstay the 30 days — overstaying can lead to fines or deportation.

Frequently asked questions

No. Nigerian passport holders are visa-free for Rwanda for up to 30 days. You don't need to apply for anything in advance — just show up with a valid passport.
No, the 30-day visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to leave Rwanda and re-enter (which resets the 30 days) or apply for a different visa type at an embassy before you travel. Overstaying is not allowed and can lead to fines.
You'll need to exit Rwanda before your 30 days are up and re-enter if you want another 30-day period. Alternatively, you can apply for a long-stay visa at a Rwandan embassy or consulate before your trip — but that's a separate process, not something you do on arrival.
No, there's no fee. Entry is free for Nigerians for up to 30 days. You won't pay anything at immigration.
Have your passport (valid 6+ months, with a blank page), a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address). It's also wise to have proof of sufficient funds, like a bank statement or credit card.
Yes, the visa-free entry applies at land borders too. Just present your passport at the immigration post. The same 30-day limit applies.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined, detained, or banned from re-entering Rwanda. If you realize you're close to the limit, leave the country before the 30th day — even a day over can cause problems.
