Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply at the Ukrainian embassy or consulate
You need a visa before traveling to Ukraine. Submit your application at the nearest Ukrainian embassy or consulate in your home country. Processing times vary, so apply at least 2–3 weeks before your planned departure.Check visa requirementsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Nigerian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Ukraine. There is no requirement for 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Ukrainian airports may ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure from Ukraine within the visa validity period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation, rental agreement, or a notarized invitation letter from a Ukrainian host. Officers rarely check this, but having it ready avoids delays at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or cash equivalent to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Immigration may ask for this if you look underfunded or have no clear itinerary.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Nigerian passport holders must have a visa before traveling to Ukraine. There is no visa on arrival, no e-Visa, and no waiver. Arriving without a visa means you will be denied entry and sent back on the next flight.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Ukraine, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa online
Go to the official Ukraine e-Visa portal (evisa.gov.ua/en/). Fill in the application form, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the visa fee (around $85 USD for a single-entry visa). Processing takes 7–14 working days.
2
Wait for visa approval
You'll receive the visa decision by email. If approved, print the visa document and keep it with your passport. Do not travel without the approved visa.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport with the visa, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep digital copies on your phone as backup.
4
Arrive at the airport in Ukraine
At Boryspil (Kyiv) or Lviv airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer calmly. You'll get a stamp and can proceed to baggage claim.
