Nigerian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Uganda. Apply online before you travel, and you'll get an approval letter by email within a few business days. As of 2026, this is the standard way to get your visa for tourism or business.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before departure. Processing takes 2–3 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print that letter and carry it with your passport to present at Entebbe or land border entry.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Nigerian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Uganda. Immigration at Entebbe checks this strictly — if you're under 6 months, you'll be denied boarding in Lagos or refused entry on arrival.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Uganda immigration requires proof of a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Airlines in Lagos will also check this at check-in — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Uganda ready. Immigration officers at Entebbe sometimes ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or card for your stay
Carry enough cash (USD or UGX) or a debit/credit card to cover your stay. Immigration may ask how you'll support yourself — having $200–$300 in cash or a card statement avoids delays.Recommended
Yellow fever certificate is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Uganda. Immigration at Entebbe checks this for all arrivals from Nigeria. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on the spot (and possibly fined).
Malaria is a real risk
Malaria is high throughout Uganda, especially in lowland areas. Prophylaxis (e.g., atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine) is strongly recommended for all travellers. Also carry insect repellent and sleep under a mosquito net.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill in your details, upload a clear scan of your passport bio page and a passport-sized photo, and pay the fee (around $50 USD for single entry). Processing takes 2–3 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email — print it and keep it with your passport.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave for the airport, double-check you have: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa approval letter, return/onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. Also carry some cash (USD or UGX) for your stay.
3
Check-in at Lagos or other Nigerian airport
At check-in, the airline will verify your eVisa approval and return ticket. Have both ready — they won't let you board without them.
4
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Present your passport, eVisa approval letter, and return ticket. The officer may ask about your accommodation and funds — answer clearly. They'll stamp you in, usually for up to 90 days.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
Once stamped, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're in.
