Frequently asked questions

Dutch passport holders can stay up to 30 days as a tourist. You can extend this once for another 30 days by visiting the immigration office (Dirección General de Migración) in Santo Domingo or at a regional office. The extension costs around 2,500 DOP (about €40).
Yes, you need to complete the Dominican E-Ticket online at https://eticket.migracion.gob.do/ within 72 hours before your flight. It's free and generates a QR code you'll show at immigration. Do it for each traveler, including children.
No. The Dominican Republic requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding, so renew your passport if it's close to expiring.
It's not officially required for entry, but it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in the DR can be high — a simple hospital visit can run into hundreds of euros. Many travel insurance policies cover this.
You'll be fined at the airport when you leave. The fine is about 1,000 DOP (€16) per month overstayed, but it's better to extend legally. Visit immigration before your 30 days are up to avoid issues.
Technically, no — the tourist visa is for tourism only. But many digital nomads do it. If you plan to stay longer, consider the 'Workation' visa (for remote workers) which allows up to 12 months. Check with the Dominican consulate in the Netherlands.
If you're transiting and don't leave the airport, you generally don't need a visa. But if you have to clear immigration (e.g., for a long layover), you'll need the same visa-free entry as tourists. Check with your airline.
