Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Kazakhstan
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Kazakhstan does not require 6 months validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kazakhstan
Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. A flight reservation within 30 days of arrival works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Kazakhstan. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays. Airbnb bookings with the host's contact details are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have access to at least $500 USD or equivalent in cash or a credit card. Immigration may ask to see it if you look under-funded. A bank statement or ATM card works.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you travel. You will be denied entry if it's not valid long enough.
No visa needed for 30 days
Dutch passport holders can enter Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days. This is a straightforward process — just show your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation at immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
You'll land at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (NQZ) in Astana or Almaty International Airport (ALA). Follow signs to 'Passport Control'.
2
Queue at immigration
Join the 'Foreign Passports' line. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in.
3
Collect your luggage
After passing immigration, head to baggage claim. Customs is usually straightforward — green channel for nothing to declare.
4
Exit the airport
Once through customs, you're free to go. Taxis and ride-hailing apps like Yandex Go are available outside arrivals.
