RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Lesotho. Airlines check this at check-in. No minimum validity beyond your stay is required by Lesotho immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Lesotho
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Lesotho. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to about $100 USD per day of your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but it's better to have evidence ready.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Lesotho immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines also check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will not be allowed to fly or enter.
14-day limit is firm
The visa-free stay is exactly 14 days and cannot be extended. Overstaying can result in fines or being barred from re-entry. Plan your departure carefully.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Moshoeshoe I International Airport (MSU) or land border
Most Dutch travellers fly into Maseru. At the airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports'. Queue at the immigration counter. Have your passport, return ticket (screenshot or print), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 14 days. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and how long you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll check your passport validity and blank page. If everything's fine, you'll get an entry stamp.
3
Collect your passport and proceed
Once stamped, take your passport and move to baggage claim (if flying) or exit the building. Keep your passport handy — you may need to show it again at a police checkpoint or hotel check-in.
