Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Tuvalu
Your Dutch passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your departure date from Tuvalu. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof you will leave Tuvalu within 90 days
Immigration officers at Funafuti International Airport ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Without one, you may be refused entry. A flight booking or ferry ticket to Fiji works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or letter of invitation
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter from a host in Tuvalu ready. Officers rarely ask, but if you arrive without a clear place to stay, they may question your plans.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 1,000 AUD (roughly 650 EUR). Immigration may ask how you will pay for accommodation and food on the islands.Recommended
No ATMs in Tuvalu
There are no ATMs anywhere in the country. Bring enough Australian dollars in cash for your entire stay. Credit cards are rarely accepted outside the main hotel.
Flights are limited
Fiji Airways flies to Funafuti from Suva (Fiji) a few times a week. Book well in advance — seats fill up fast.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Funafuti International Airport
You'll land at the only international airport in Tuvalu. The terminal is small. After deplaning, walk straight to the immigration counter.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and return ticket. The officer may ask how long you're staying and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a visitor permit.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel (it's a single belt). Then walk through customs. No arrival form is needed.
