Dutch passport holders need an e-visa to enter Uganda. Apply online before you travel — there is no visa on arrival for tourism. As of 2026, the process is straightforward if you have your documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Uganda eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official Uganda eVisa portal. The application takes about 15 minutes — upload your passport photo and bio page. Approval usually comes within 2–3 business days, but apply at least a week before your flight to be safe.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Dutch passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Uganda. No minimum validity period beyond your departure date is required by Ugandan law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready — they won't let you through without it.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask where you're staying — having a booking reference speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready showing you have enough funds for your trip. Uganda doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but around $200–$300 USD equivalent is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate, the yellow card, to enter Uganda. No exceptions for Dutch passport holders. Get the shot at least 10 days before you travel and carry the card with your passport.
Apply early for the e-visa
Do not wait until the last minute. Processing can take up to 5 business days, and the portal sometimes has glitches. Apply at least 10 days before your flight to avoid stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Uganda e-visa portal at visas.immigration.go.ug. Fill in the application form, upload your passport photo and passport data page, pay the fee around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa, and submit. Processing usually takes 2-5 business days.
2
Receive and print your e-visa
Once approved, you will get a PDF via email. Print a copy and save it on your phone. You will need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Entebbe or other border
At Entebbe International Airport, the main entry point, follow signs to 'Visas' or 'Immigration'. Hand over your passport, printed e-visa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 5-10 minutes if the queue is short.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs. There is usually a quick bag scan. You are free to go.
