Bhutan entry requirements for Norway passport holders
Norwegian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Bhutan. The eVisa is linked to a pre-booked tour package — independent travel is not allowed. You must apply through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator, who handles the visa process for you. This system has been in place since 2023.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| eVisa application Bhutan e-Permit | Apply for your Bhutan e-Permit at bhutan.travel/e-permit before travel. This is not a visa sticker — it's an online clearance linked to your passport. You'll need a confirmed tour itinerary and a licensed Bhutanese tour operator to submit the application.Apply for e-Permit | Required |
| Valid passport Must be valid for entire stay | Your Norwegian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Bhutan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Bhutanese immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Required for entry | Immigration at Paro Airport will ask for proof of onward travel. Have your printed or digital return ticket ready. Bhutan does not allow visa-free exit — you must have a confirmed flight out. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Tour operator handles this | Your licensed Bhutanese tour operator arranges all accommodation as part of the mandatory tour package. You don't need to book hotels separately — just confirm your itinerary with the operator before departure. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Minimum daily spend required | Bhutan enforces a minimum daily package fee of $200–$250 USD per person (depending on season), which covers accommodation, meals, guide, and transport. Your tour operator will confirm payment — carry a copy of the receipt or bank transfer proof. | Recommended |

Transiting through Bhutan
Norway passport holders transiting through Bhutan's only international airport (Paro) do not require a transit visa if staying airside and not passing through immigration. However, due to limited flights, most transits require overnight stays and thus a visa.
- Holders of a valid visa for India, Bangladesh, or Nepal may transit without visa for up to 24 hours.
