Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Norwegian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Lithuania. As a Schengen member, Lithuania does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just cover the dates you are in the country.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Vilnius Airport checks for a return or onward ticket out of the Schengen zone. A bus ticket to Poland or a flight back to Oslo works. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air also verify this at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers occasionally ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Airbnb bookings with the host's contact details are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient means for your stay
Lithuania can ask you to show you have at least €40 per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card with available credit works. In practice, this is rarely checked for Norwegian passport holders.Recommended
Schengen 90/180 rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay covers all Schengen countries combined, not just Lithuania. If you've already spent time in France or Germany earlier this year, that counts toward your 90 days. Use the EU's short-stay calculator to track your days.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you enter Lithuania, not your departure date. If it expires sooner, you may be denied boarding or entry. Renew early.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, gather your passport, return ticket, accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance. Keep digital copies on your phone and printed backups in your carry-on.
2
Arrive at Vilnius or Kaunas Airport
Go through passport control. Join the queue for 'Non-EU' or 'All Passports'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and when you leave. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp starts your 90-day Schengen clock. Check it's correct before walking away.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Unless you're carrying restricted goods, you'll walk straight out.
