Norwegian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Libya in 2026. You must apply and receive approval before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival option. Plan ahead, as processing times can be unpredictable.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Libya requires a visa for Norwegian passport holders. Apply through the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal. Processing times vary — submit at least 2 weeks before your flight. You'll need a scanned passport photo and a letter of invitation from a Libyan sponsor.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Norwegian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Libya. No minimum validity period beyond departure is officially required, but airlines may enforce 6 months. Carry a photocopy of the bio page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Libyan immigration officers check for a confirmed return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed copy of your itinerary ready. Airlines at Oslo and connecting hubs may also ask to see it before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or sponsor letter
Immigration may ask for a hotel reservation or a letter from your Libyan host confirming where you'll stay. A printed booking confirmation from Booking.com or similar works. If staying with a friend, have their contact details and address written down.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — a bank statement from the last month showing at least 500 USD or equivalent in NOK. Credit card statements also work. Immigration rarely asks, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
eVisa processing can be slow
Apply at least 4 weeks before your trip. There is no standard processing time, and delays are common. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.
No visa-on-arrival
You cannot get a visa at the airport. If you arrive without an approved eVisa, you will be denied entry and sent back on the next flight.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa
Go to the official Libyan eVisa website and complete the application. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (amount varies by nationality). Processing can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks, so apply at least 4 weeks before your trip.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa document. Print two copies — one to keep with your passport, one as a backup. Also save a PDF on your phone.
3
Arrive at the airport in Libya
At Tripoli Mitiga or Benghazi airport, proceed to immigration. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer may ask a few questions about your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
4
Get your passport stamped
After the officer reviews your documents, they'll stamp your passport with your entry date. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — make sure the date is correct.
