Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Norwegian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in North Macedonia. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required, but airlines may enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from North Macedonia
Immigration officers at Skopje Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your exit from North Macedonia within the 90-day visa-free window.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in North Macedonia. Border officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least €50–€100 per day of your stay, either in cash, a credit card, or a bank statement. Officers rarely check this for Norwegian passport holders, but it's better to have proof ready.Recommended
6-month passport rule strictly enforced
Border officers check passport validity from your entry date, not your departure. If your passport expires within 6 months of landing, you'll be refused entry. No exceptions.
Keep a copy of your return ticket
Immigration officers at Skopje Airport and land borders frequently ask to see proof of onward travel. A screenshot on your phone is fine, but have it ready before you reach the booth.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at border or airport
At Skopje International Airport or any land border crossing, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present documents to officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They may also ask to see your return ticket.
3
Get entry stamp
If everything's in order, the officer stamps your passport with the entry date. This stamp shows your allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from baggage claim (if flying) and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have goods to declare.
