Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Mauritius. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mauritius
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Without one, you risk being refused entry and put on the next flight out. A printed booking confirmation or e-ticket works fine.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, resort booking, or a letter from your host ready. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry at least $100 USD per day or a credit card with available limit. Immigration can ask to see cash, bank statements, or traveler's cheques — they rarely do, but it's better to have proof.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport has less than 6 months validity from your entry date, you will not be allowed to fly. Renew first.
No visa, no fee, no form
Norwegian passport holders get a free 90-day stay on arrival. No application, no payment, no online form. Just your passport and a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU)
You'll land at the main airport near Port Louis. Follow signs to 'Immigration' — it's a single queue for all foreign visitors. Have your passport and return ticket screenshot ready.
2
Queue at immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity, stamp you in, and may ask how long you're staying. Answer honestly. The whole process takes 2–5 minutes per person.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim. There's a customs declaration area — if you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. Taxis and hotel shuttles are outside.
