Norwegian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Russia in 2026. The eVisa allows a single entry for up to 16 days, and you must apply online before you travel. No visa is needed for transit if you stay airside and have a confirmed onward ticket.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for a Russian eVisa
Apply for your Russian eVisa at the official eVisa portal at least 4 days before travel. The eVisa allows a single entry for up to 16 days. You'll need a digital photo and a scan of your passport data page. Approval usually takes 2–4 calendar days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your Norwegian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Russia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Russian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. If you're flying out to a third country, that ticket also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a visa invitation letter (if staying with friends/family). Immigration may ask for it at the border, especially if you're arriving on a one-way ticket.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means
Have at least 500 EUR (or equivalent in RUB/USD) available per day of stay. Cash, credit card, or a bank statement showing sufficient funds works. Immigration rarely checks this, but it's safer to have evidence.Recommended
eVisa is single entry only
The eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Russia (even for a day trip), you can't re-enter on the same eVisa. Plan your itinerary accordingly.
Register your stay within 7 days
Your hotel or host must register you with local authorities. If you're staying in a private home, the host must do this. You don't need to go anywhere yourself, but confirm it's done — failure to register can cause problems when leaving.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Russian eVisa portal (evisa.kdmid.ru). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a recent passport-style photo. Pay the fee (if any) and submit. You'll get a confirmation email.
2
Wait for approval
Processing takes up to 4 calendar days. Check your email and the portal for the decision. Print the approval or save it on your phone.
3
Book your travel
Once approved, book your flights and first night accommodation. Make sure your return ticket is within the eVisa's 16-day window.
4
Arrive in Russia
At passport control, hand over your passport and the eVisa approval (printed or digital). The officer will stamp your passport. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
5
Register your stay
Within 7 days of arrival, your hotel or host must register you with local authorities. If you're staying in a private home, the host must do this. You don't need to do anything yourself, but confirm it's done.
