Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Norwegian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Norwegian citizens, but your airline might ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready — they check this before granting entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Taiwan. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to funds. Taiwan does not publish a minimum amount, but around 10,000 TWD per day is a safe benchmark if questioned.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Taiwan. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
No visa extension available
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a visa before traveling or leave and re-enter after a short trip abroad.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taoyuan or Songshan Airport
Most flights from Norway land at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA). Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration.
2
Queue at immigration
Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your stay.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp says '90 days' before leaving the counter.
4
Collect luggage and proceed
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and pass through customs. Green channel if nothing to declare, red channel if you have dutiable goods.
