Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Hong Kong Visit Visa (eVisa)
Apply for a Hong Kong visit visa online through the Immigration Department website. Processing takes 4–6 weeks, so apply well before your trip. The eVisa is a single-entry permit valid for 3 months from issue date.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Nepalese passport must be valid for at least the full duration of your stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but airlines may check it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers at Hong Kong airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure from Hong Kong within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter from your host in Hong Kong. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient financial means
Have bank statements or a credit card showing you can support yourself during your stay. Hong Kong does not publish a fixed minimum, but around 500 HKD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
You cannot get a visa on arrival in Hong Kong with a Nepali passport. Apply online before you fly. Airlines will check your eVisa before letting you board.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, flight booking, and hotel confirmation in a cloud folder (Google Drive, iCloud) as backup. Phone batteries die, but cloud files are always accessible.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Hong Kong Immigration Department's eVisa portal. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel plans. Upload a digital photo and pay the fee (around HKD 230). Processing usually takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF attachment. Print a paper copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show this at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Visitors/Non-Residents'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer will scan your passport and stamp you in.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, head to the baggage claim area. Then proceed through Customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now free to enter Hong Kong.
