Nepalese passport holders need a visa to enter Ireland in 2026. You must apply at an Irish embassy or consulate before traveling — there is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option for Nepal. Processing can take several weeks, so plan ahead.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for an Irish visa
You need a visa before traveling to Ireland. Apply online through the Irish Immigration Service website and submit your documents to the nearest Irish embassy or visa application center. Processing takes 2–8 weeks depending on your location and the time of year.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Ireland. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Irish law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Dublin and Shannon airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure from Ireland within your visa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have enough money for your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but around €50–€70 per day is a safe benchmark for a short visit.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival or e-visa
There is no way to get an Irish visa at the airport or online after you've booked your flight. You must apply and receive the visa sticker in your passport before you travel. Plan for 4–8 weeks processing time.
Biometrics required in person
You cannot complete the visa process entirely online. You must visit the Irish visa application centre in Kathmandu to give your fingerprints and photo. The centre is located in the Embassy of Ireland premises.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online visa application
Go to the Irish visa website (visas.inis.gov.ie) and fill out the online application form. You'll need to upload a digital photo and pay the fee online. After submission, you'll get a summary sheet to print and bring to your appointment.
2
Attend the visa appointment in person
Book an appointment at the Irish visa application centre in Kathmandu (or the embassy in New Delhi if you're in India). Bring your printed application summary, passport, passport-sized photos, and all supporting documents. They'll take your biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
3
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 4–8 weeks, but can be longer during peak seasons. You can track your application online. Once approved, your passport will be returned with the visa sticker.
4
Arrive in Ireland and go through immigration
At Dublin Airport (or Shannon/Cork), join the 'Non-EU' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa. The officer may ask about your trip, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer clearly and honestly. They'll stamp your passport with the allowed stay duration.
