What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official El Salvador eVisa portal. Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (if any) and submit. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval email with a PDF — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, gather: your eVisa approval, passport (6+ months validity), return/onward ticket, first-night hotel booking, and travel insurance if you have it. Keep digital copies on your phone and a printed backup in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at San Salvador International Airport (SAL)
After landing, follow signs to Immigration. Join the queue for foreign passport holders. When it's your turn, hand over your passport and eVisa approval. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking — have them ready. They'll stamp your passport and let you through. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
4
Exit and collect luggage
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over $300 or restricted items. Walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
