What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (approx. $25 USD). Processing takes 3–5 business days, but you can pay extra for urgent (1–3 hours).
2
Receive and save your eVisa
You'll get the eVisa by email as a PDF. Print a copy and save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Baku.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Have your passport, eVisa printout (or phone), and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 1–2 minutes.
4
Collect your bags and exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel and walk through customs. There's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over $10,000 or restricted items.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes 3–5 business days. If you're in a hurry, you can pay extra for urgent processing (1–3 hours) — the cost is about $50 USD instead of $25.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave and re-enter with a new eVisa, or apply for a different visa type at an embassy before travel.
A digital copy on your phone is usually accepted at immigration, but printing a paper backup is safer — phone batteries die and screens crack. Keep both.
Your application will be rejected. Renew your passport first, then apply for the eVisa. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at all international border crossings — airports, land borders, and seaports. Just show it along with your passport.
No, it's not required by law. But it's strongly recommended — medical costs in Azerbaijan can be high, and insurance covers hospital stays, evacuation, and trip cancellations.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined approximately 300 AZN (about $175 USD) for the first 10 days, and the fine increases after that. In extreme cases, you could be banned from re-entering.
