Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for your Benin eVisa at the official portal at least 5 days before departure. The eVisa is valid for single entry and allows a stay of up to 30 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Benin. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Benin
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. Overland departures are accepted but you still need proof you are leaving the country.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, a printed booking confirmation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry cash (Euros or US Dollars) or a bank statement showing at least $200–$300 for a short stay. ATMs are available in Cotonou but not everywhere, so cash is safer.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Omani passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Benin. You must apply and receive approval before your flight. Airlines will check this before boarding.
Yellow fever vaccine mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Without it, you may be denied entry or quarantined. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Benin eVisa website (evisa.gouv.bj/en). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive eVisa approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa approval. Download and print it, or save a clear digital copy on your phone. The eVisa is valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
3
Pack required documents
Before heading to the airport, gather: passport (6+ months validity), printed eVisa, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance documents.
4
Arrive at Cotonou Airport (COO)
Most international flights land at Cotonou Cadjehoun Airport. After disembarking, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Have your passport and eVisa ready.
5
Pass through immigration
Present your passport and eVisa to the officer. They may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer clearly and politely. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
6
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. You're now in Benin.
