Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full 30 days you plan to stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong does not require 6 months of remaining validity for Oman passport holders, but your airline may enforce a 6-month rule — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers at Hong Kong International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. Overstaying the 30-day visa-free period can result in a fine and a ban.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter of invitation from a Hong Kong resident works. You don't need to print it — showing it on your phone is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Officers can ask for evidence you can support yourself. Have a bank statement or credit card showing available funds. There's no set minimum, but a few thousand HKD equivalent is a safe bet.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Hong Kong. If it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding by the airline or turned away at immigration. Check your passport now.
No visa, but be prepared
Visa-free doesn't mean no questions. Immigration officers can still ask for proof of onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds. Have digital copies ready on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for foreign passport holders. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly. They'll stamp your passport with a 30-day entry permit.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to the baggage claim carousel for your flight. Then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no restricted items. If you're carrying cash over HKD 120,000 (or equivalent), use the red channel.
