Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for an Irish visa before travel
Submit your visa application online at the Ireland Immigration Service website. You will need to book an appointment at an Irish visa application centre (VFS Global in Oman) to submit your passport and biometrics. Processing takes 8–12 weeks — apply well in advance.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Ireland. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Irish law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ireland
Immigration officers at Dublin Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave Ireland within your visa validity. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a flight booking confirmation works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a confirmed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Ireland ready. Immigration may ask where you are staying — a booking confirmation with your name and dates is sufficient.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least €50–€100 per day of your stay. Immigration officers occasionally ask for this — have a recent statement or cash available.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Omani passport holders cannot enter Ireland without a visa. There is no visa-on-arrival or eTA. Apply well in advance.
Common Travel Area note
Ireland is part of the Common Travel Area with the UK, but this does not give you the right to enter the UK. You need a separate UK visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply online
Go to the Irish visa website and fill out the online application form. You'll need to upload a digital photo and pay the visa fee (around €80 for a single-entry visa).
2
Book an appointment
After submitting the online form, book an appointment at the Irish visa application centre in Muscat. Appointments can fill up, so book as early as possible.
3
Attend the appointment
Go to the visa centre with your printed application, passport, photo, and supporting documents (bank statements, flight booking, accommodation, travel insurance). They'll take your biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
4
Wait for processing
Processing usually takes 2–4 weeks, but can be longer during peak seasons. You can track your application online. Once approved, your passport with the visa sticker will be returned to you.
5
Arrive in Ireland
At Dublin or Shannon airport, go to the 'Non-EU' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa. The immigration officer may ask about your trip — have your return ticket and accommodation details ready.

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 2–4 weeks. During peak seasons (summer, Christmas) it can take longer. Apply at least 6 weeks before your planned travel.
A single-entry visa costs about €80. A multiple-entry visa costs about €100. There's also a service fee at the visa application centre in Muscat (around €20–30).
No. Ireland and the UK are separate countries with separate visa systems. You need a separate UK visa to visit England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
Yes, you need to show a confirmed flight out of Ireland (or the Common Travel Area) before your visa expires. A refundable ticket is fine if you're unsure of your plans.
You can appeal the decision within 2 months. The appeal costs about €80. You'll need to address the reasons for refusal in your appeal letter.
It's difficult. Visa extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances (e.g., medical emergency). Plan your trip to fit within the visa's validity.
If you're transiting through an Irish airport to a non-UK destination and staying airside, you may not need a visa. But if you need to clear immigration (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), you do need a visa.
