Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Schengen visa application
Apply before travel
You need a Schengen visa to enter Slovakia. Apply at the Slovak embassy or consulate in Oman — processing takes at least 15 calendar days. Submit your application no more than 6 months before your trip.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for your entire stay in Schengen
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen area. It must have been issued within the last 10 years and have at least 2 blank pages for entry/exit stamps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen
Immigration officers at Slovak border checkpoints routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket out of the Schengen zone. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a bus, train, or flight booking all work.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or a letter of invitation from your host in Slovakia. Border officers sometimes ask for this during secondary checks.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have at least €56 per day of your stay. This is rarely checked for short visits but can come up if you look like you might overstay.Recommended
Apply well in advance
Visa processing can take 2-4 weeks. Do not book non-refundable flights or accommodation until your visa is approved. Some embassies require an interview, which can add time.
Schengen area rules
Slovakia is part of the Schengen zone. A Slovak visa allows you to travel to other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. But your first point of entry must be Slovakia, or you must spend the most time there.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa at the Slovak embassy
Contact the Slovak embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Submit the completed application form, passport, photos, travel insurance, flight itinerary, and accommodation proof. Pay the visa fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6-12, free for under 6). Processing takes about 15 calendar days.
2
Wait for visa approval
Once submitted, the embassy will process your application. You may be called for an interview. After approval, your passport will be returned with the visa sticker.
3
Arrive at a Slovak airport or border
When you land at Bratislava Airport or any other entry point, join the queue for non-EU passports. Have your passport with the visa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer may ask about your travel plans and funds.
4
Show documents and get stamped
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your visa and may ask a few questions. They will stamp your passport with the entry date and the allowed stay duration. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
