Proof of funds

The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash. ATMs are available in the arrivals hall but can have long queues and may run out of cash. Bring euros or CFA francs with you.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dakar Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS)
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's a dedicated counter. Queue up, present your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking. Pay the fee in cash (euros or CFA francs are easiest). You'll get a visa sticker in your passport — usually valid for 30 days.
2
Pass through immigration
Once you have the visa, proceed to the immigration officer. They'll stamp you in. Keep your boarding pass handy — they may ask for it. The whole process takes 20–40 minutes depending on queues.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Usually straightforward. If you need a taxi, use the official booth just outside arrivals — fixed prices to downtown Dakar.
