Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for your Benin eVisa at evisa.gouv.bj/en. The online form asks for passport details, travel dates, and a digital photo. Processing takes 3–7 business days, and you'll receive the approved eVisa by email — print two copies to carry.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs at least one blank page for entry stamps. Benin does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — just ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your trip.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask
Immigration officers at Cotonou Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Officers rarely check it, but having it avoids delays if asked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or card statement
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. There's no fixed minimum amount, but around $100 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Peruvian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Benin. You must apply and receive the eVisa before you travel. Airlines will check this at check-in.
Yellow fever vaccine mandatory
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be quarantined or denied entry. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.

What happens at the border

Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with the eVisa document. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport (6+ months validity), printed eVisa, return/onward ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on.
