Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Colombia. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers in Bogotá and Medellín enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Colombia
Immigration officers at El Dorado Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they rarely accept verbal promises.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You don't need a specific amount, but having a credit card or a bank statement showing at least a few hundred dollars helps. Officers rarely check this for short stays, but it's safer to have it.Recommended
Check-Mig pre-registrationColombia's mandatory online pre-registration form at migracioncolombia.gov.co. Complete it within 72 hours before your flight — it takes under 5 minutes.
Mandatory online form within 72 hours of departure
Colombia requires all travellers to complete the Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. Fill it out online, get the QR code, and show it at check-in and immigration. Takes under 5 minutes.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Check-Mig is mandatory
You must complete the Check-Mig form online within 72 hours before your flight. Without it, you may be denied boarding or delayed at immigration. It's free and takes 5 minutes.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Colombia. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel. Airlines check this too.

Frequently asked questions

Up to 90 days per entry. This is granted at the immigration counter. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for an extension (not always granted) or leave and re-enter.
Extensions are possible but not guaranteed. You'd need to visit a Migración Colombia office (in Bogotá, Medellín, or other major cities) and apply. There's a fee (around 150,000 COP as of 2026) and you'll need a reason. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
You'll be fined per day overstayed (around 100,000 COP per day, but capped). You may also be banned from re-entering for a period. Always leave before your stamp expires.
Not required for Peruvian passport holders arriving from Peru. But if you're coming from a country with yellow fever risk (e.g., Brazil, parts of Africa), you may need proof of vaccination. Check with your airline.
Technically, tourism visas don't allow local employment. But remote work for a foreign company is generally tolerated. If you plan to stay long-term, consider a digital nomad visa (Colombia introduced one in 2022).
Report it to the nearest police station and get a police report. Then contact the Peruvian embassy in Bogotá or consulate in Medellín for an emergency passport. You'll need a new passport to leave the country.
No, you don't need any visa — it's visa-free. Just show up with your passport and Check-Mig form.
