Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Lithuania. Schengen rules do not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but some airlines may still ask for it — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Lithuanian border checkpoints routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines also verify this at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host with their address and contact number. Border officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have bank statements, a credit card, or cash equivalent to at least €50 per day of your stay. Officers rarely check this for short visits, but it helps if asked.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay covers all 27 Schengen countries. If you've already spent time in France, Germany, or Spain earlier in the year, those days count toward your 90-day limit in Lithuania.
Border control may ask questions
Be ready to explain the purpose of your visit, where you're staying, and how you'll support yourself. Having a return ticket and accommodation details handy speeds things up.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you travel, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep digital copies on your phone and printouts in your carry-on.
2
Arrive at Vilnius Airport or Kaunas Airport
You'll go through Schengen border control. Join the 'All Passports' queue. The officer will check your passport, ask about your trip purpose and length of stay, and may ask for your return ticket and accommodation.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp starts your 90-day clock. Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There are no additional forms or fees for visa-free entry.
