Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Mongolia. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration at Ulaanbaatar's Chinggis Khaan International Airport will deny boarding if it expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mongolia
Immigration officers at Ulaanbaatar routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they won't let you through without one.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $50 USD per day. Officers almost never check this for short stays, but it's a legal requirement and can be requested.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Mongolia. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be turned away at the gate.
No visa needed, but be prepared
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration may still ask for your return ticket and accommodation booking. Have digital copies ready on your phone to avoid delays.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you travel, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return/onward ticket, first night accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups.
2
Arrive at Ulaanbaatar (or other entry point)
Most travellers fly into Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) in Ulaanbaatar. Land border crossings from Russia or China are also possible but less common. At the airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration.
3
Present your documents to immigration
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will check your visa-free eligibility, stamp your passport, and grant you up to 90 days. This usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually nothing to declare unless you're carrying large amounts of cash or restricted items.
5
Exit the airport and start your trip
Once through customs, you're free to enter Mongolia. Taxis and buses are available outside the terminal. Have your accommodation address ready for the driver.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Mongolia and re-enter, or apply for a visa extension at the Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar before your 90 days expire. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Mongolian immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. The 6-month validity is calculated from your entry date, not your departure date.
If you're transiting through Mongolia (e.g., flying through Ulaanbaatar to another country) and staying airside, you generally don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport, you must meet the visa-free requirements (passport validity, onward ticket). Check with your airline for specific transit rules.
Yes, you can enter via land borders, but the process is similar to air entry. You'll still need your passport (6+ months validity), onward ticket, and accommodation proof. Land crossings can be slower and less predictable — allow extra time.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined (around 500–1,000 MNT per day overstayed), detained, and banned from re-entering Mongolia for a period. Always leave before your 90 days are up or apply for an extension if needed.
No, there is no arrival declaration or registration requirement for Peruvian citizens. You simply present your documents at immigration and receive your entry stamp.
No, travel insurance is not a legal requirement for entry, but it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Mongolia can be high, especially for evacuation from remote areas. Some airlines may ask for proof of insurance at check-in.
