Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the period you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may enforce 3 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration at Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — if you can't show one, they may deny boarding or entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 per day of your stay. Immigration rarely checks, but budget airlines may ask at check-in.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Ukraine. Airlines check this at check-in, and border officers verify it at passport control. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding or entry.
Keep digital copies of all documents
Save screenshots of your return ticket, hotel booking, and travel insurance on your phone. Also email copies to yourself. This makes it easy to show immigration officers if asked, and helps if you lose your physical documents.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date), print or screenshot your return ticket, first-night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in a separate folder or on your phone for quick access.
2
Arrive at the airport and check in
At the airline check-in counter, present your passport and return ticket. The airline will verify your visa-free eligibility and may ask for proof of accommodation.
3
Go through passport control at Kyiv Boryspil or other entry point
At the immigration booth, hand over your passport. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking. Answer clearly and briefly. The whole process usually takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to enter Ukraine.
