Peruvian passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Zambia. You can board your flight without a visa and handle it when you land at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka or any other official port of entry. The process is straightforward, but you need the right documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Apply online or get on arrival
You can get a visa on arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and other land borders. The single-entry visa costs $50 USD and is valid for 30 days. To save time, apply online at the Zambia eVisa portal before you travel — the fee is the same and approval takes 2–3 business days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your Peruvian passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from Zambia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Lusaka airport ask for proof of a return or onward flight before issuing the visa on arrival. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — a bus or train booking out of Zambia also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Zambia. Immigration may ask for it during the visa on arrival process, especially if you are staying more than a few days.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card showing at least $500 USD available. Immigration officers occasionally ask for proof of sufficient funds, particularly if you are arriving without a return ticket.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash (USD). There are no ATMs or card payment facilities at the immigration counter. Bring crisp, new $50 bills — old or damaged notes may be refused.
Visa not extendable
The visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer than the period granted at the border (usually 30 days), you'll need to leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration
After you land at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (or any other official border crossing), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's usually a separate counter for visa-on-arrival applicants.
2
Fill out the application form
You'll be given a short form to complete. It asks for basic info: name, passport number, flight details, and where you're staying. Fill it out in block capitals.
3
Submit documents and pay
Hand over your passport, the completed form, and your return ticket (if asked). Pay the visa fee in cash (USD). The officer will process your visa and stick it into your passport.
4
Get your passport stamped
Once the visa is issued, the officer will stamp your passport with your entry date. You're now cleared to enter Zambia. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

The single-entry tourist visa on arrival costs around $50 USD. You must pay in cash — US dollars are preferred. Bring crisp, new bills because old or damaged notes may be refused. The fee is subject to change, so check the Zambian Department of Immigration website before you travel.
No, the visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you'll have to leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before you travel. The maximum stay is determined at the border — typically up to 30 days.
Yes, if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever, you'll need to show a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Peru is not a yellow fever country, so you won't need it if you're flying directly from Peru. But if you've been in any yellow fever endemic country within 6 days before arriving, you'll need the certificate. Check the WHO list before you go.
Yes, you can get a visa on arrival at most major land border crossings, including the Victoria Falls border (Livingstone) and the Chirundu border with Zimbabwe. The process is the same as at the airport — just have your documents and cash ready.
Immigration may deny you entry if you can't show proof of onward travel. It's a mandatory requirement. Book a refundable ticket or a cheap bus ticket to a neighboring country if you're unsure of your plans.
No, it's only available for certain nationalities. Peruvians are eligible. Check the Zambian immigration website for the full list. If your nationality isn't listed, you'll need to apply for a visa at a Zambian embassy before you travel.
Usually 15–30 minutes at the airport, but it can take longer during peak hours or if there are many arrivals. Plan for at least 30 minutes to be safe. At land borders, it's often faster.
