Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Philippine passport holders need a visa for Romania. Apply online through the Romania eVisa portal at evisa.mae.ro/en. Processing takes 2–5 working days for most applications.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Romania. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Romanian law, but airlines may enforce 3–6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen
Immigration officers at Bucharest Otopeni and other Schengen entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy showing your departure from the Schengen area within your visa's validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a notarized invitation letter from your Romanian host. Border officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you're arriving from a non-EU country.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready. Romanian immigration may ask for evidence of at least €50 per day of stay, though enforcement is inconsistent at land borders.Recommended
Apply early—processing can be slow
Romanian visa processing often takes 2–3 weeks, and delays happen. Don't book non-refundable flights or hotels until your visa is approved.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save scans of your passport, visa, flight tickets, and accommodation on your phone and in cloud storage. If you lose your passport, these make replacement much faster.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the visa online
Go to https://evisa.mae.ro/en, create an account, and fill out the application. Upload scanned copies of your passport, photo, travel insurance, flight booking, and accommodation. Pay the fee (around €60–€120 depending on visa type). Processing takes 10–15 business days, sometimes longer.
2
Wait for visa approval
Check your email and the portal for updates. If approved, you'll receive a visa sticker or an electronic authorization. Print it out and carry it with your passport.
3
Arrive at a Romanian airport
At Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) in Bucharest or other entry points, go to the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa, boarding pass, and any requested documents (return ticket, accommodation). The officer may ask a few questions—answer honestly. Expect a stamp in your passport.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags from the carousel. Then walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're in Romania.
