Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival at Dili Airport or land borders
Philippine passport holders get a 30-day visa on arrival at Presidente Nicolau dos Santos Lobato International Airport in Dili and at the land border crossings from Indonesia. Cost is $30 USD — bring exact cash in US dollars, no change given. The visa is single entry and non-extendable.Check visa detailsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry. Airlines at Manila and connecting hubs (Singapore, Denpasar, Kuala Lumpur) enforce this strictly — they will deny boarding if your passport expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Timor-Leste
Immigration at Dili Airport checks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A flight booking out of Timor-Leste within your 30-day visa validity works. Bus or ferry tickets to Indonesia are also accepted if you're exiting overland.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel reservation for at least your first few nights. If staying with a local host, carry their name, address, and phone number written down. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines flying into Dili sometimes request it at check-in.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement showing sufficient money
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing equivalent funds. Immigration officers occasionally ask to see proof you can support yourself during your stay. Credit cards are not widely accepted outside Dili — cash is king.Recommended
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in US dollars cash. There are no ATMs before immigration, and credit cards are not accepted. Bring US$30 in exact change if possible.
Visa on arrival is not extendable
If you need to stay longer than 30 days, you must apply for a separate visa extension at the Immigration Department in Dili before your visa expires. This is not automatic and requires a valid reason.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Dili Airport
After deplaning, follow signs to the Visa on Arrival counter before immigration. This is a small counter on the left side of the arrivals hall.
2
Pay the visa fee
Hand over your passport and US$30 in cash. The officer will process payment and issue a receipt. No forms to fill out.
3
Receive your visa sticker
The officer will affix a visa sticker into your passport. Check the validity dates before walking away.
4
Proceed to immigration
Join the queue at immigration. Present your passport with the visa sticker, and your return ticket if asked. You'll get an entry stamp.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. The whole process usually takes 20–40 minutes.
