Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. Processing takes up to 3 working days. The eVisa is valid for 30 days single entry. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum 6-month validity is required by Azerbaijani law, but airlines may enforce their own rules.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure from Azerbaijan.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Azerbaijan. Immigration may ask for this at the border, especially for first-time visitors.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient money
Have bank statements or cash equivalent to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Officers rarely check this, but it can be requested if you look underfunded.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Azerbaijan, not from the day you apply for the eVisa. If it expires sooner, renew your passport first.
Registration after 15 days
If you stay longer than 15 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels do this for you automatically. If you're in a private apartment, visit an ASAN Service centre. The fine for missing this is 300–400 AZN.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan eVisa portal at evisa.gov.az. Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a digital passport photo, and pay the fee. Standard processing takes 3 business days; urgent processing can be as fast as 3 hours for an extra fee.
2
Receive your eVisa by email
Once approved, you'll get a PDF eVisa attached to the email you provided. Print a copy and save a digital version on your phone. The eVisa is linked to your passport number — you don't need to carry the printed copy, but it's safer to have it.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
When you land in Baku, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will scan your passport, stamp it, and wave you through. The whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Register your stay (if staying more than 15 days)
If you're staying longer than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service within 15 days of arrival. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do this yourself at an ASAN Service centre. Failing to register can result in a fine of 300–400 AZN.

Frequently asked questions

No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave before your 30 days are up. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to exit the country and re-enter with a new visa.
Only if you stay more than 15 days. Your hotel will usually handle this automatically. If you're in a private rental, you must go to an ASAN Service centre within 15 days of arrival. The fine for not registering is around 300–400 AZN.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your passport photo doesn't meet standards or if you have a criminal record. You'll get a refund of the visa fee but not the service fee. You can reapply with corrected information.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at all international border crossings — airports, land borders, and seaports. Just make sure you have the printed eVisa with you.
It's not officially required at the border, but it's strongly recommended. If you need medical care, you'll pay out of pocket. A basic travel insurance policy covers that and costs very little.
