Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for Bhutan e-Permit
You need an e-Permit (visa) before you arrive. Apply at bhutan.travel/e-permit — the official tourism portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you pay a $40 USD visa fee plus a $65 USD/day Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Bhutan. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Bhutan
Immigration officers at Paro Airport ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Without one, they may deny entry. Book a refundable ticket if your plans are flexible.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or tour itinerary
Bhutan requires all tourists to book through a licensed tour operator or have confirmed hotel reservations. Carry a printed copy of your booking confirmation or tour itinerary. Immigration may ask to see it.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — at least $200 USD per day to cover the SDF and personal expenses. A bank statement or credit card statement works. Immigration rarely asks, but it is safer to have it ready.Recommended
eVisa required — no exceptions
Pakistani passport holders cannot enter Bhutan without an approved eVisa. There is no visa on arrival or visa waiver. Apply well in advance.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Bhutan, not from your departure date. Check your passport now.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Bhutan eVisa portal and fill out the application. Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page and a recent passport-sized photo. Pay the visa fee (if any) and submit. Processing typically takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa document. Print a copy and also save a digital version on your phone. The eVisa is linked to your passport number.
3
Arrive at Paro International Airport
At Paro Airport, proceed to immigration. Present your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. The officer will stamp you in — usually a quick process if your documents are ready.
4
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying restricted items.
