Pakistan passport holders must get an e-visa before traveling to Ethiopia. The entire process is online: you apply, pay, and receive the visa by email. As of 2026, this is the only option for tourism or business — there are no visa-on-arrival facilities for Pakistani nationals.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Ethiopian eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa is valid for tourism or business visits and typically processes within 3 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Addis Ababa Bole Airport will check it before issuing your entry stamp.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Ethiopia. Airlines at departure check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Bole Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version ready on your phone. Without one, you risk being refused entry and sent back on the next flight.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Ethiopia. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having a clear address and booking confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have access to at least $200–$300 USD in cash or a credit card for your trip. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, showing a bank statement or cash is enough.Recommended
Yellow fever certificate required
If you're arriving from Pakistan or any country with yellow fever, you must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (the 'yellow card'). Without it, you may be vaccinated on arrival or denied entry. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
eVisa only valid for air arrival
The Ethiopian eVisa is only accepted at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa. If you plan to enter by land from Kenya, Sudan, or another neighbor, you'll need a different visa — contact the nearest Ethiopian embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to www.evisa.gov.et, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (around $52 USD for a 30-day single-entry visa). Processing usually takes 1–3 business days. You'll receive the visa by email.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, print a paper copy of the eVisa and also save a PDF or screenshot on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Bole International Airport (ADD)
After landing in Addis Ababa, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival' — but since you have an eVisa, join the regular passport control queue. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying something unusual.
