Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for an eVisa before travel
Apply online at the official Iraq eVisa portal before you fly. Processing takes a few business days — do not book non-refundable flights until approved. Print the eVisa approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Iraq. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they may deny entry if you cannot show one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Iraq. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means for your stay
Have access to enough cash or a credit card to cover your stay — roughly $50–$100 USD per day. Officers rarely ask, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Pakistani passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival. You must have the eVisa approved before you board your flight. Airlines check this before issuing a boarding pass.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, passport photo, return ticket, and hotel booking on your phone. Also carry a printed copy of the eVisa in your hand luggage — just in case your phone dies or you lose signal.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.iq and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, a digital photo, and your travel dates. Processing usually takes a few business days. Once approved, download the PDF and save it on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), the eVisa PDF, return ticket, hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep digital copies on your phone and printouts in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at Baghdad International Airport
When you land, head to the immigration hall. Join the queue for foreign passport holders. Have your passport, eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — no additional fees at the counter.
4
Exit and collect luggage
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim. If you have an eSIM, it should activate automatically as soon as you connect to the local network. Then head to the arrivals hall.
