eVisa is mandatory — no walk-in option
You must apply online at evisa.mae.ro/en before you travel. There is no visa-on-arrival or embassy walk-in for short stays. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa
Go to evisa.mae.ro/en, fill out the application, upload your passport scan and a passport-sized photo, and pay the €80 fee. Processing takes 2–5 working days. Print the approval letter once approved.
2
Pack your documents
Before heading to the airport, gather your passport, printed eVisa approval, return ticket, hotel booking, and bank statement. Keep them in your carry-on for easy access.
3
Arrive at the airport
At check-in, the airline will verify your eVisa and onward ticket. They may also check passport validity. If everything's in order, you'll get your boarding pass.
4
Go through immigration in Romania
At Henri Coandă Airport (OTP) or any other Romanian airport, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa printout. The officer will scan the barcode, ask a few questions (purpose, length of stay), and stamp your passport. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're in.
