Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for a Uganda eVisa at the official portal before travel. The application takes about 15 minutes — upload a passport photo and your passport data page. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, and the visa is sent to your email as a PDF.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Uganda. Airlines at departure check this — if your passport expires before you leave, you may be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they may check it before stamping your passport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or card for your stay
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card showing available funds. Immigration may ask how you'll support yourself during your visit.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 1 year old. Without the yellow card, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (which costs time and money). Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Apply for the eVisa early
Processing can take up to 10 days. Don't wait until the last week. Apply at least 2 weeks before your flight to avoid delays.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Uganda eVisa portal (visas.immigration.go.ug). Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, but apply at least 2 weeks before your trip to be safe.
2
Receive and save your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with an approval letter. Print a copy and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show this at the airport check-in counter and again at immigration in Uganda.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you leave, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa approval, return/onward ticket, first night's hotel booking, and travel insurance details. Keep them in your carry-on, not checked luggage.
4
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (or land border)
At the airport, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Hand over your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will check your documents, take your fingerprints, and stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes if you have everything ready.
