Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Colombia. Airlines check this at check-in, so verify your passport expiry date before booking.Required

Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready to show at passport control.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to funds. No fixed amount is published, but around $500 USD for a short trip is a safe benchmark.Recommended

Mandatory online form within 72 hours of travel
Complete the free Check-Mig form at migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before your flight. Save the QR code you receive — you'll show it at immigration and boarding.Open Check-Mig formRequired
Check-Mig is free — avoid scam sites
The official Check-Mig form is at migracioncolombia.gov.co and costs nothing. Some third-party sites charge a fee for the same form. Always use the official government site.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
If your passport expires 5 months after you land, you'll be denied entry. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Check your passport's expiry date before booking flights.

What happens at the border

1
Complete Check-Mig online
Go to migracioncolombia.gov.co and fill in the form. You'll need your flight details, passport info, and accommodation address. Do this 24–72 hours before your flight — not earlier, not at the airport.
2
Arrive at immigration in Colombia
At Bogotá (El Dorado) or Medellín (José María Córdova), follow signs to 'Extranjeros' (Foreigners). Have your passport, printed or digital Check-Mig confirmation, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to go.
