Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Polish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Kazakhstan. Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports check this at the booth — no extra months beyond your departure date are required.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kazakhstan
Immigration at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready — a simple booking printout works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Kazakhstan doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but carrying around $50–70 USD per day in cash or a credit card statement helps. I've never been asked for it, but a few travellers report being quizzed at the border.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Kazakhstan. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Keep your entry stamp safe
The entry stamp shows your allowed stay. If it's smudged or missing, ask the officer to re-stamp it. You'll need it when leaving to prove you didn't overstay.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry). Book a return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of your booking confirmations and insurance policy on your phone.
2
Arrive at Kazakh immigration
At Astana (Nursultan Nazarbayev) or Almaty airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket or hotel address — show the screenshots.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (30 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Exit Kazakhstan
At departure, present your passport with the entry stamp. No exit visa needed. If you overstay, you'll pay a fine (around 10,000 KZT per day) and may be banned from re-entry.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a visa at a Kazakh embassy before travel. Overstaying results in fines (about 10,000 KZT per day) and possible entry bans.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month validity is counted from your entry date, not your departure.
For stays under 30 days, no registration is required. If you somehow get permission to stay longer (via a visa), you must register within 5 days at the local migration police office.
Yes, the visa-free policy applies to all border crossings — air, land, or sea. Just have your passport and return ticket ready. Land crossings may have longer queues and less English signage.
Report the loss immediately to the local police and contact the Polish embassy in Astana or the consulate in Almaty. They can issue an emergency travel document. You'll need a police report and a passport photo.
No, it's not mandatory for visa-free entry. But it's strongly recommended — medical evacuation or hospital treatment can be very expensive. Some airlines may ask for proof of insurance at check-in.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or transit only. Any work or study requires a proper visa or work permit. If caught, you risk deportation and a ban.
