Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the 30 days you plan to stay in Mongolia. Airlines at Warsaw Chopin Airport will check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, they may deny boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mongolia
Immigration officers at Chinggis Khaan International Airport routinely ask for a printed or digital onward ticket showing you leave within 30 days. Without one, you risk being refused entry and sent back on the next flight.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Border officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask to see cash, a bank statement, or a credit card showing you have enough for your stay. Around 50 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will not be allowed to fly.
No visa, but be prepared
While no visa is needed, immigration officers may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Keep digital copies on your phone. Having travel insurance is strongly recommended — medical costs in Mongolia can be high.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you travel, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry), print or screenshot your return ticket, and save your first night's hotel booking confirmation. Also arrange travel insurance and a local SIM or eSIM.
2
Arrive at the airport in Mongolia
You'll land at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) in Ulaanbaatar. Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration counters. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Mongolia.
