Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Border guards rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have at least $50 USD per day of stay available in cash, card, or bank statement. Officers almost never check this for Polish passport holders, but it's a legal requirement.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Ukraine. If it expires sooner, you will be denied entry — no exceptions. Check your passport date before booking flights.
Overstaying has consequences
The 90-day visa-free period starts on the day you receive your entry stamp. Overstaying even by one day can result in a fine (1700–3400 UAH) and a potential entry ban. Set a reminder to leave on time.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at the border crossing
At any Ukrainian airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. Border officers may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day visa-free period. Count 90 days from this date — overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
4
Exit Ukraine before 90 days
Make sure you leave Ukraine before the 90-day limit. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit at a migration office in Ukraine before your visa-free period expires.
