Portuguese passport holders need an eVisa to enter Cameroon for tourism or business. The eVisa system launched in 2020 and is the only way to get a visa — there are no visa-on-arrival options. Plan ahead: processing typically takes 3–5 business days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Required before travel
Apply for a Cameroon eVisa at the official portal before departure. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you must upload a passport photo, passport scan, and proof of accommodation. Print the eVisa approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yaoundé and Douala airports will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Portuguese passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Cameroon. Airlines boarding in Lisbon or Paris will check this before letting you fly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Yaoundé Nsimalen and Douala airports routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — if you cannot show one, you may be refused entry and placed on the next flight out.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmations or a letter of invitation from your host in Cameroon can speed up immigration. Officers occasionally ask where you are staying, and having a printed reservation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry cash (Euros or CFA francs) or a bank statement showing at least 500 EUR equivalent. Immigration rarely asks, but if you cannot show means of support, they can deny entry.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport — which costs time and money.
No visa on arrival — plan ahead
Cameroon does not offer visa on arrival for Portuguese passport holders. The eVisa is the only option. Apply at least a week before your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Cameroon eVisa website (evisacameroon.com). Fill in the application form, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email — print it and keep a digital copy on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents for travel
Print the eVisa approval, your return ticket, and your first night's accommodation confirmation. Keep them together in a folder. Also save digital copies on your phone in case you lose the paper.
3
Arrive at Yaoundé Nsimalen or Douala International Airport
Most international flights land at Yaoundé Nsimalen (NSI) or Douala International (DLA). After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer will check your documents, stamp your passport, and let you through. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes per person.
