Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Hong Kong. Immigration officers at the border check this, and airlines enforce it before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket out of Hong Kong. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this at the arrival counter.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to enough cash or credit to cover your expenses — around 500 HKD per day is a safe benchmark. Officers rarely check, but budget travelers get asked more often.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Hong Kong immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months of validity from your arrival date. No exceptions. Check your passport now.
No arrival form needed
Portuguese passport holders do not need to fill out any arrival declaration or landing card. Just present your passport at immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand your passport to the immigration officer. They may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket — show the screenshot on your phone.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away. If something looks wrong, ask the officer to correct it.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There are no arrival forms to fill out for Portuguese passport holders.
